Molnija Military Pocket Watch - VDV PARATROOPER

A wonderful 15 jewel manual wind mechanical watch that shows the Airborne Troops emblem surrounded by a blue circle saying 'Airborne Troops' ('Vozdushno-Desantnya Voiska' in Russian or Airborne Descent Troops in English). This Russian slogan gives rise to the acronym VDV which is synonymous with Russian Airborne Troops, much as SAS is with elite troops in UK.

Depicted on the face is the Airborne Troops emblem which shows an Eagle with large wings with the parachute above. This watch celebrates the Airborne Troops and their very dangerous job. We know them the commonly as Paratroopers or in Russian as 'Parachutists Voiska'

In the rear of the case is a Russian Flag centre piece with the words again in Russian Cyrillic saying 'Za Sluzhbu Otechestvou' which translated means 'For Services to the Motherland'. The face of the watch is a typical Molnija engrave ornate style with seperate second dial and Roman Numerals around the edge.
