(Ма́ршал Росси́йской Федера́ции) (Márshal Rossíyskoy Federátsii) or Marshal of the Russian Federation is the highest rank of the Russian Federation, created in 1991 after the fall and breakup of the Soviet Union. It ranks immediately above the General of the Army and Admiral of the Fleet.
The only officer who presently holds the rank is the former Minister of Defense Igor Sergeyev, who was elevated from the General of the Army of the Military Space Troops. Since Russian military ranks system lack a brigade-grade general but has a General of the Army, a Marshal of the Russian Federation should be considered as a honorary title equivalent to a Field Marshal or General of the Army in other countries, created in the event of a major war or as the result of extreme military accomplishment.
