This Amphibian Neptune currently comes in two models, Green and Blue both of which are rare and limited in availability. A more ornate and mainly presentational Amphibian it is no less functional than is counterparts in the Amphibian range. The Emerald Green Dial shows a setting sun with two symbols in the centre, Neptune's Trident and the Vostok trademark. The graduated markings beneath represent the setting sun's reflection upon the ocean.
This Amphibian model has been named after the Roman God of the sea, Neptune, but little is known of his origin. When he was first introduced in Rome, he already had all the characteristics of the Greek Poseidon and was usually depicted carrying a Trident (3 pointed spear) which was symbolic of lightning. Neptune, ruler of the sea or underworld normally holds the trident aloft and its history is traceable to the horned, hoofed sun-god of Babylon, who carried the trident or pitchfork. The trident symbol now adorns the watch Amphibian Watch Dial and Backing Plate as shown in the pictures below.
